Guest Lecture: "Understanding Drug Abuse: Impact, Prevention and Student Responsibility"

The Department of Mental Health Nursing SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized a Guest Lecture on the topic "Understanding Drug Abuse: Impact, Prevention and Student Responsibility" on 14th June 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the DRH Auditorium, SDMCMS&H , Dharwad.

The program began with a soulful invocation by Ms. Veena, a 7th semester B.Sc. Nursing student, which set a serene and respectful tone for the session.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Sachin B.S. Professor cum Unit Head, Department of Psychiatry, SDM College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Dharwad. Dr. Sachin delivered a highly informative and thought-provoking lecture highlighting the causes and consequences of drug abuse, preventive measures, and the vital role students can play in promoting mental well-being and preventing substance abuse among peers.

The session was graced by the presence of Dr. Prasanna Deshpande, In-charge Principal, and Dr. Rangappa Ashi, Vice Principal, SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences, Dharwad. Their presence and words of encouragement added great value to the event.

Students from 2nd Semester B.Sc. Nursing and 2nd Year DGNM attended the session and actively participated in the discussion. The lecture was well-received and appreciated by all attendees.

The entire program was effectively coordinated by Dr. Nagesh V. Ajjawadimath, who ensured the smooth organization and successful execution of the event.

The session concluded with a message emphasizing the importance of awareness, early intervention, and collective responsibility in preventing drug abuse among youth.
