About Our Department

The Department of Maternal Health is also known as Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing Department which is one of the six departments of faculty of Nursing. It is also one of the important and centre pillar in imparting Nursing Education related to the Maternal Health. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing provides courses related to Maternal Health Nursing as well as Advanced Nursing Practice within the framework of the curriculum of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad and Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi.

The department is aimed at preparing graduate and post-graduate nurses in developing the skills essential to midwifery practice. The department teaches the specialized skills such as prenatal care, care during labor and delivery, electronic fetal monitoring, Non stress test, neonatal resuscitation and assisting and diagnosing gynaecological surgeries. It also helps to develop competencies and evidence based practice in Midwifery and decision making independently.

Department uses innovative practice so as to enable the graduates to inculcate service mind in delivering the quality care to their clients / patients.
