NSS Special Camp 2026

The NSS Unit-IV of SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences successfully organized a 7-day NSS Special Camp from 23rd to 29th March 2026 at Government Higher Primary School, Shibargatti village, under the theme “Youth for My Bharat.” A total of 50 final-year B.Sc. Nursing students actively participated in the camp with the objective of promoting community health, social responsibility, and leadership among students.

Inauguration Ceremony

The camp was inaugurated on 23rd March 2026 in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Rakesh Nayak, Dr. Rangappa Ashi (Vice-Principal), Dr. Tilak Joshi, and other community leaders. The program began with an invocation, followed by the welcome address, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and presentation of the camp activity plan.

Highlights of the Camp Activities

Day 1: Plantation Drive

A plantation drive was conducted where 12 saplings were planted to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.

Day 2: School Health & Mental Health Awareness

  • Speech and Hearing Screening: 95 school children were screened; 23 were identified with ear wax issues and referred for further care.
  • Mental Health Awareness Session: Conducted to educate children on emotional well- being, stress management, and healthy coping mechanisms.

Day 3: Community Health Screening

  • Hypertension & Diabetes Screening: 47 villagers were screened and counseled on lifestyle modification.
  • Awareness on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Focus on prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices.

Day 4: Tuberculosis & HIV Awareness

  • Health Awareness Rally: Organized on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day to spread awareness.
  • Guest Lecture: Covered TB and HIV/AIDS, focusing on prevention, treatment, and stigma reduction.

Day 5: Anemia Screening & Cancer Awareness

  • Screening and education on anemia management.
  • Awareness on breast and cervical cancer, emphasizing early detection and preventive practices.

Day 6: Cleanliness Drive & School Activities

  • Village cleanliness drive and wall art campaign promoting hygiene and sanitation.
  • School programs including drawing, essay writing, slogan competitions, and games to reinforce health education.

Day 7: Community Awareness & Sanitation

  • Continued cleanliness activities and wall art initiatives to create lasting awareness on hygiene and environmental health.

Valedictory Function

The camp concluded with a valedictory function in the presence of dignitaries including Dr. Prasanna Deshpande (Principal) and other officials. A summary of activities was presented, followed by appreciation of NSS volunteers. Certificates were distributed, and cultural performances highlighted key social messages.

Conclusion

The NSS Special Camp was a highly impactful community-based initiative that successfully addressed key health issues such as non-communicable diseases, mental health, tuberculosis, anemia, and sanitation. It significantly contributed to improving health awareness among the rural population while fostering a spirit of service, leadership, and social responsibility among nursing students.
