On 10th September 2024, the Department of Psychiatry at SDM College of Medical Sciences & Hospital (SDMCMS&H), in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health Nursing at SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences (SDMIONS), organized an impactful event in observance of National Suicide Awareness Day. The event was held under the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide: With the Call to Action, Start the Conversation,” and aimed to address the critical issue of suicide prevention by promoting open dialogue to reduce stigma and encourage early intervention.
This initiative was conducted under the aegis of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad.
Guest Speaker & Highlights
The event featured Dr. Naidila Jain, Senior Resident in the Department of Psychiatry at SDMCMS&H, as the distinguished guest speaker. Dr. Jain provided an insightful presentation focusing on understanding the complexities surrounding suicide, emphasizing the importance of initiating conversations to prevent suicide and enhance mental health support systems. Her talk highlighted the need for proactive mental health interventions and support structures to reduce the risk of suicide.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Nagesh V. A., Associate Professor at SDMIONS, who greeted the esteemed guests, faculty, and students from both SDMCMS&H and SDMIONS.
