Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Campaign

Introduction

The NSS Unit-4 of SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences, a constituent unit of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, in collaboration with the Department of Adult Health Nursing and the Department of Mental Health Nursing, organized the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Campaign”. The campaign aimed to create awareness about substance abuse and promote a drug-free society among students and the community.

Objectives

• To create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse and its physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences.
• To promote healthy lifestyles and positive coping strategies for managing stress and resisting peer pressure.
• To disseminate information regarding treatment, rehabilitation, and support services available for individuals affected by substance abuse.

Program Activities

The SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences, Dharwad, observed the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA)” on 25/06/2026. This nationwide initiative aims to create awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a drug-free society through community participation, youth engagement, and educational interventions.

1. Poster Presentation

Students actively participated in a poster presentation highlighting the harmful effects of substance abuse. The posters reflected the creativity, knowledge, and commitment of the students toward spreading awareness about a drug-free lifestyle.

2. Seminar

A seminar on the theme of “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” was delivered by “Dr. Nagesh V. Ajjawadimath, Professor and Head, Department of Mental Health Nursing”. He highlighted the causes, consequences, prevention strategies, treatment options, and rehabilitation measures related to substance abuse. He also motivated students to become ambassadors for a drug-free society.

3. Role Play

An informative role play was performed by the III Year GNM students. The performance effectively conveyed the importance of prevention, early intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals affected by substance abuse.

4. Awareness Campaign and Pledge

A total of 200 students participated in the campaign and took the pledge, "Say No to Drugs and Say Yes to Life," administered by Mr. Mallikarjuna P., NSS Programme Officer. The campaign successfully achieved its objectives by sensitizing students to the dangers of substance abuse and promoting awareness of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Outcomes of the Program

Conclusion

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was successfully conducted at SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences with the active participation of 200 students. The programme effectively enhanced awareness about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse, promoted healthy lifestyle practices, and informed participants about the available treatment and rehabilitation services. Through the poster presentation, seminar, role play, and awareness campaign, students were encouraged to take an active role in building a drug-free society.
