The SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences organized the Lamp Lighting and Oath-Taking Ceremony – 2026 on 16th May 2026 for the 19th Batch B.Sc. Nursing students and the 21st Batch GNM Nursing students. The programme was conducted with great dignity, enthusiasm, and professionalism in the gracious presence of eminent dignitaries, faculty members, students, parents, and invited guests from various nursing institutions of Hubballi and Dharwad.
The programme commenced with a grand ceremonial procession of dignitaries into the auditorium, where the gathering warmly welcomed them with applause and traditional respect.
The function was presided over by Smt. Padmalatha Niranjan, BOG Member, SDM University; Dr. Srikanth Phulari, Assistant Director (Nursing), Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, and Registrar of the Karnataka State Nursing Council (KSNC), Bengaluru, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest; and Prof. Madivallappa Nagarahalli, Secretary, KSDNEB, Bengaluru, who attended as the Distinguished Guest.
The programme was further honoured by the presence of Sri Saketh Shetty, Deputy Medical Director, SDM University; Prof. Clement Chelli, Deputy Registrar, SDM University; Dr. Kiran Hegade, Medical Superintendent, SDMCMS&H; Dr. Prasanna Deshpande, Principal, SDMINS; Mrs. Manjula K. B., Nursing Superintendent; and Mr. V. G. Prabhu, Finance Officer, SDM University.
The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, symbolizing the removal of darkness and the spread of knowledge, wisdom, compassion, and selfless service. This auspicious ceremony reflected the true spirit of the nursing profession and inspired the budding nurses to dedicate themselves to humanity with sincerity and commitment.
This was followed by a melodious invocation song rendered by Ms. Pooja, a 4th Semester Nursing student, invoking divine blessings for the successful conduct of the programme.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Prasanna Deshpande, who warmly welcomed all the dignitaries, guests, parents, faculty members, and students. In his address, he emphasized the nobility of the nursing profession and appreciated the dedication and enthusiasm of the students entering the healthcare field.
One of the most solemn and memorable moments of the programme was the Oath-Taking Ceremony, during which Mrs. Manjula K. B. administered the nursing oath to the students. The students solemnly pledged to uphold the ethics, values, and responsibilities of the nursing profession with compassion, integrity, discipline, and commitment.
The introduction of the Chief Guest, Dr. Srikanth Phulari, was presented by Dr. Rangappa Ashi, who highlighted the Chief Guest’s remarkable contributions to nursing education, professional development, and nursing administration. Similarly, the introduction of the Distinguished Guest, Prof. Madivallappa Nagarahalli, was delivered by Mr. Somashekar K., who spoke about his valuable services and immense contributions to nursing education and examinations in Karnataka.
In his keynote address, Dr. Srikanth Phulari congratulated the students on entering the noble profession of nursing. He emphasized that nursing is not merely a profession but a lifelong commitment to caring for and serving humanity. He encouraged students to maintain professional ethics, compassion, discipline, and continuous learning throughout their careers, inspiring them to uphold the dignity and values of the profession.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Madivallappa Nagarahalli appreciated the institution for organizing such a meaningful and inspiring programme. He motivated the students to become skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated nurses capable of rendering quality healthcare services to society.
Dr. Kiran Hegde also delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the vital role of nurses in healthcare services and patient recovery. He encouraged students to make the best use of the academic and clinical learning opportunities available on campus.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Tilak Joshi, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries, guests, management, faculty members, students, parents, and organizing committee members for their valuable presence and support in making the programme a grand success.
The programme was effectively anchored by Dr. Nagesh Ajjawadimath, who conducted the event smoothly and gracefully.
The function witnessed enthusiastic participation from nursing students, parents, faculty members, and principals from various nursing institutions of Hubballi and Dharwad. The programme concluded with the National Anthem, followed by lunch for all dignitaries and participants.
The entire event was memorable, inspiring, and successful in motivating budding nurses to dedicate themselves to the noble profession of nursing with compassion, commitment, discipline, and professionalism.
