Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony

The Lamp Lighting and Oath taking Ceremony of SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences, A Constituent Unit of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad, for B.Sc. Nursing and GNM Students was held on Monday, 16th May of 2022 at Shri D. Veerendra Heggade Kalakshetra. The Lamp Lighting Ceremony is an auspicious occasion in every nurse's life, held in reverence to Florence Nightingale, the lady with the lamp. Nursing is the only profession that follows lamp lighting ceremony. Light, as a symbol of knowledge, removes ignorance and is a lasting wealth by which lots could be achieved. The lamp lighting ceremony formally recognises the students' entry into the nursing profession.

The Occasion was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Dr. Niranjan Kumar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University was the Chief Guest of the occasion. In his address said that "The Institute in which you learn is an accredited with huge number of patients and blessed with well-equipped infrastructure. By 2030 there will be a great demand for health care workers, so we should be ever ready to serve the society at large."

Smt. Padmalata Niranjan, Executive Director & BOG Member, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University presided over the function. Dr. Naidila, Prof. S. K. Joshi, Pro Vice Chancellor Academics graced the ceremony. The nursing students rendered into the profession by taking the oath delivered by Prof. Metilda S. Bijapur.

The Ceremony was hosted by Mr. Tilak Joshi and Ms. Nancy Mary. The programme started with an invocation song by Mr. Soumyajit and Team II B.Sc. and Prof. David A. Kola, Principal welcomed the gathering. Prof. Gangabai B. Kulkarni delivered a message on significance of Lamp Lighting.

Dr. Rangappa Ashi, Associate Professor proposed Vote of thanks. The formal programme ended with National Anthem.
