The Department of Adult Health Nursing, SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences (SDMINS), Dharwad, organized a two-day Skill-Based Workshop on “First Aid Module and BCLS Module with Cardiac Assessment” on 28th and 29th April 2026 at Ishavasyam Auditorium and Skill Laboratory, SDMINS.
The workshop was conducted with the theme “Seconds Count, Skills Save – Check, Call, Care & Empower to Save Lives”, aiming to strengthen emergency care competencies and lifesaving skills among nursing students and faculty members.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Chidendra Shettar, Registrar, SDM University, Dharwad, as the Chief Guest, along with Mrs. Manjula K. B., Nursing Superintendent, Dr. Prasanna Deshpande, Principal, SDMINS, and Dr. Rangappa S. Ashi, Vice Principal, SDMINS. The dignitaries highlighted the importance of prompt first aid measures, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), and skill-based nursing education in saving lives during emergencies.
The workshop witnessed active participation from B.Sc. Nursing, GNM, and M.Sc. Nursing students, nursing faculty, and instructors. Various expert sessions and hands-on training programs were conducted by eminent speakers from SDMINS and SDM College of Medical Sciences & Hospital.

The workshop provided participants with valuable practical exposure in emergency response, cardiac assessment, CPR techniques, clinical decision-making, and patient safety through simulation-based demonstrations and skill sessions.
The valedictory programme was held on Day 2 at 4:00 PM in the presence of Dr. Ajanta G. S., Deputy Registrar, SDM University, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Prasanna Deshpande, Principal, SDMINS, Dr. Rangappa S. Ashi, Vice Principal, SDMINS, and Dr. Tilak Joshi, HOD, Department of Nursing Foundation, were also present during the occasion. The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and encouraged students to continuously update their emergency care skills and clinical competencies.
The program concluded successfully with the distribution of certificates and words of appreciation to all the participants, resource persons, and organizers for their valuable contributions.
